It was a bonanza year for Prattville High School basketball.
For the first time since the 1997-98 season, when Shelton State's head coach, Barry Mohun, was on the side of the court at Prattville High School, the Lions won the Class 6A, Area 6, championship and advanced to the Central Regional at Alabama State University.
Along the way, the Lions picked up 20 wins for the first time since the 1999-2000 season, during Owen Butts's first year at PHS.

Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery has had a new metal detector installed as part of a Montgomery Public Schools initiative to put the security devices in middle and high schools to increase security.
Sidney Lanier High School also has a detector.
In some cases, the metal detectors have caused a delay in the start of school for students.

A record number of participants and spectators turned out on a splendid Saturday morning for the eighth annual Southeast Georgia Health System Bridge Run and Walk.
An estimated 2,000 runners and walkers -- more than double last year's biggest turnout ever -- made the trek over the Sidney Lanier Bridge and back, all with a determination to complete the arduous task and all for a good cause.
Atlantan Mike Gerber was the first to complete the run -- in 17 minutes, 31 seconds -- and recorded his third firs

The 8th annual Southeast Georgia Health System Bridge Run kicked off early Saturday morning in sunny Brunswick, Ga.
People gathered to run and walk across the scenic Sidney Lanier Bridge which boasts a height of 480 feet and a length on 7,000 feet.
"This year's theme is 'Running of the Ribbons: The Colors of Hope,'" said event organizer Susan Bates in a news release.
